Prime Prep JV, Triple A Academy notch wins (November 25, 2012)

Though labeled a JV squad, it was Prime Prep's controversial Varsity team that cruised to victory two days after Thanksgiving at the Duncanville Hoopfest.

TD with 8 seconds left gives Garland 23-21 win (October 20, 2012)

A perfectly-executed two-minute drill featuring direct snaps to the running back keeps Garland's hopes of a District title alive.

Little Elm's back's 57 carries in 41-17 win over Frisco Wakeland just shy of state record (November 03, 2012)

If Ke'aun Kinner's coach hadknown he was only five carries from the Texas state record, perhaps, though unlikely, he would have called the end of the game differently.

Hebron volleyball team turns it around, defeats Coppell in four sets (September 22, 2012)

Having lost to defending state champion Coppell once in the preseason, Hebron's three straight sets to steal a District-victory came as quite a surprise, even to Hebron.

Horn overwhelms Boyd in season-opener (September 01, 2012)

Mesquite Horn outdoes its goal of a 20-snap differential, relying on its offensive line to control the trenches against out-sized and inexperienced McKinney Boyd.

Frisco holds The Colony to 97 yards (October 06, 2012)

With a dominant overall defensive effort, Frisco capitalizes on two Colony turnovers to win an ugly 28-7 ballgame.

I spent late summer, fall and the early winter of 2012 in Dallas. While a job as Director of Media Relations with the Texas Legends (the Dallas Mavericks' D-League affiliate) brought me south, that quickly morphed into covering high school sports for and expanding the social media presence of The Dallas Morning News.

While with The Morning News, I was grateful for each and every byline. They are the truest currency in this business, and they bring even more satisfaction when they come in the face of a deadline. Each of the selected below fits into that category — some composed and submitted in roadside Denny's, grateful for the free wi-fi; some composed and submitted via phone, grateful for the wonder of 3G; some composed and submitted from various ISD press boxes, grateful for the patience of local high school volunteers.

Missed PAT dooms SOC in overtime (November 17, 2012)

South Oak Cliff will not be taking extra point attempts for granted for a long while after missing one ended the Golden Bears season.
